When patients come see us at our Bristol Street offices, Dr. Fong ensures they leave with the healthiest smile possible. Of course, the patient plays an important role in keeping this the case with attentive home hygiene.
But some cosmetic issues with the teeth are another story. They often need covering up.
The more well-known options for these cover-ups are porcelain veneers and dental bonding. Dr. Fong performs both of these cosmetic improvements, and they both have their pluses and minuses. Veneers are ultimately beautiful, but they can be costly. Bonding can remake a single tooth or two, but it’s not meant for all the teeth and it doesn’t last as long as a set of veneers.
There is another option that you probably have not heard of — Bioclear. Bioclear allows Dr. Fong to give patients a beautiful smile at a significantly lower cost than veneers. And Bioclear is more durable and lasts longer than bonding.
How is Bioclear different than porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are placed on the fronts of the teeth. The placement of porcelain veneers requires that a portion of the front of the tooth be removed to make room for the veneer. Because of this removal of .5 to .7 mm of enamel, porcelain veneers are a lifetime commitment. When your first set of veneers reaches its lifespan, you need to have a new set placed.
Bioclear doesn’t require removal of any of the natural tooth surface. Instead, using matrices to mold the composite resin, the Bioclear system simply fills in areas with gaps.
Bioclear is more cost effective than porcelain veneers.
How is Bioclear placed on the teeth?
The Bioclear system uses clear tooth-shaped forms that Dr. Fong places on the teeth. Composite resin is then placed into the forms and molded by Dr. Fong. Thanks to the clear tooth-shaped forms, Dr. Fong can dramatically change the shape, color, or size of a tooth, and he can do this without having to remove any of the tooth surface, as needs to be done when placing porcelain veneers.
What does Bioclear help treat?
Bioclear is an alternative to cosmetic options such as dental bonding or porcelain veneers. Bioclear is great for black triangles (gaps at the upper portions of two adjacent teeth when the gums have pulled back slightly), gaps between teeth (diastema), uneven teeth, worn-down teeth, chipped teeth, or uneven tooth color.
